A Seminar on Working with Dreams, Fantasy, and Unconscious Communication II

Dr. Movahedi

(Dr. Movahedi )

This eight-week clinical seminar is a continuation of our previous courses in Dreams and Unconscious Fantasy. The skill of working with unconscious communications in dreams is one of the most exciting and challenging aspects of the psychoanalytic process. Psychoanalysis began with Freud’s (1905) Interpretation of Dreams and extended to the analysis of all communication in the analytic situation. Dreams and unconscious fantasies (and daydreams) represent a royal road to understanding psychic processes. Analytic listening is itself a form of dream interpretation. Much of the unconscious transference communications in sessions are expressed in dream-like discourse. We will examine this discourse within transference, resistance, and disguised communication. We will critically review recent works on dreams, fantasies, and unconscious communication, and spend rest of the class time presenting and working with class participants’ clinical materials, fantasies, and dreams.
