(Mr. Pouralibaba)
The study of Freud’s work continues with a focus on theoretical and technical aspects of transference and resistance. Through a selected critical reading of Freud’s and possibly other major writings, this course will provide interested graduate students and therapists with an understanding of the original and evolving meanings of these key Freudian psychoanalytic concepts. Special consideration will be given to application of these concepts in clinical practice.
Based on knowledge gained in the course through our readings and analyses and on your own clinical experience, you will have the opportunity to discuss the clinical situation as it unfolds actively. This class will also focus on the analytic process, what one might say to the patient at a particular time, and why. Special stress will be laid on how emotional memories, existing as unconscious fantasies, manifest in intense transference wishes and illusions.
