(Dr. Ganjavi)
This course is the continuation of the previous course “Psychoanalytic Perspectives on Adolescence” and during this new semester the focus is on the book “Analytic Engagements with Adolescents: Sex, Gender, and Subversion” (2018) by American psychoanalyst Mary T. Brady. The sessions are mainly targeted at sexual dynamics and identities inside adolescents’ psychic worlds and also in the room between the therapist and the teenager, as an outstanding aspect during this developmental phase. Topics such as erotic transference in working with this age group, internalized homophobia, transgender issues, absence of sexuality in a number of teenagers and also working with adolescents’ parents will be discussed. There’s a need for some basic knowledge about Object Relations Theory on development and also transference-countertransference concepts. Participants are expected to study the texts and share their therapeutic as well as personal experiences regarding this realm.
